So sorry its been a really busy couple of days. But here's a post:
Sophie the owl was very hungry, as she fell asleep, stomach growling. A woman appears holding out bread. "Those who search will live!" croaks the old woman, dressed in a black gown. "Those who search will live!" The bread looks appetizing to Sophie. She wakes even hungrier than before. So using the last of her energy, she takes flight and finds herself in town. She asks a villager, "Have you seen an old woman with bread?"
"No. No. No," the man replies. "Why don't you try this." He hands he sweet caramel candy and Sophie eats it willingly. Then she flies back home satisfied, but later that night her stomach cramps and she can barely lift her head. A headache pounds at her skull and sleep is far off.
But finally after several hours of cramping pain, she falls into a restless sleep. Again the woman appears, bread in hand. "Those who seek will live! Those who seek will live!". When Sophie wakes the next morning, she flies into out in the other direction. The first person she see is a man painting on a stool. She asks, " Have you seen an old woman with bread?"
"No, but I will give you some crumbs if you let me paint you. Your the most beautiful owl I've ever seen!" Sophie obliges, sitting still for hours so the man can draw. When finished, he shows her the painting. "See, beautiful," he says, turning swiftly around not rewarding Sophie. So she flies home still hungry. That night when she falls asleep, the woman appears again, her black gown flowing in the wind. "Those who seek will live my, dear child. Those who seek will live." Sophie wakes to a growling stomach and thinks of the bread the old woman offers. So she heads out a last time, not sure if she'll make it. She finds a hill to rest on and looks out over the land. "Those who seek will live! And you have searched," said the voice from Sophie's dream. She whips around to see the old woman. She brightens. The woman gives the the bread. Its satisfying. Not as appealing, but very satisfying.
The woman starts to walk away. "How will I find you again?" Sophie asks.
"You won't need to. The food of the this world is sweet, but will make you sick. The food I offer is satisfying and will last."
That is the story of Sophie the Owl. We watched this cartoon at CIY. The woman represents God and the bread represents wisdom. The village and villagers are this world and their food is the wisdom the world offers.
At CIY, we talked about wisdom. Wisdom is the path to a good life. The ability to tell right from wrong. True wisdom comes from God alone and can't be found anywhere else. The wisdom of this world is impure.
Worldly Wisdom: (Selfie-Wisdom)
The "good life" of this world is all centered around ME (as in yourself). Its the self-centered life. A life of walking through the world saying, "It's all about me!" The world says, "If you just do this, then you'll be happy!" But the THIS never satisfies and is always changing so we are driving ourselves mad chafing it. There is no point to it. All we are doing is running in circles! And it only leaves us more empty.
God's wisdom is pure, peace loving, caring, confederate, and kind. It makes us more selfless. It makes us more like Christ. He was loving enough to give up everything for us like I said in my post "The King Who Gave It All Away".
How Do We Achieve This Wisdom?
-pray. God will give you wisdom as you begin to know Him. Fill yourself up with Him. Tell Him everything. Spill your guts and ask for forgiveness , wisdom, and advice.
-read. The more you read the Bible, the more you learn about God and the closer you become to know. The more of His wisdom you see.
-friends. Watch who you hang out with. You need to be around people who know God. Surround yourself with people who will encourage you to walk with God.
And you might be thinking what the resurrection has to do with this, but... The resurrection basically says the wisdom of the world is dumb because it says the qualities of God's wisdom get you nothing when it obviously got Jesus everything. The qualities of God's wisdom gain you victory!
