This is a conversation I witnessed a long while ago. Of course it isn't going to be word for word and I did change the names of the people involved in the conversation, but here it is:
Bob: "If you had one wish, what would it be?"
Abby: "Umm...I don't know."
Bob: "Come on. There's gotta be something you would wish for..." Abby doesn't respond for a long time. "There isn't a problem that you would solve? It doesn't have to be a wish for you. You could grant someone else's wish. It could be anything."
Abby: (sigh) "I don't know. I'm not good at the wishing thing..." Abby can feel Bob rolling his eyes. "Ugh. Let me think a minute...What would YOU wish for?"
Bob: "Umm...I think I'd wish for world peace."
Abby: "That's such a good wish. Why couldn't I come up with something like that? It'd be hard though. Getting world peace would be one thing but maintaining world peace would be another."
Bob: "Yeah, but that's why I would wish for lasting world peace."
Abby: "That would be good."
Bob: "So what's you wish..."
Abby: "I still haven't come up with one."
Bob: "Man, you really weren't kidding when you said you weren't good at the whole wishing thing."
Abby: "Yeah, I told you." Bob doesn't reply for a while. "Bob?"
Abby: "How come your not talking any more?"
Bob: "I am waiting."
Abby: "Oh. I think that if I had to make a wish...I think my wish would be for people to see things through God's eyes for just a few precious seconds."
Bob: "Now that's a good wish. That would make world peace. There would be...It'd be peaceful."
Abby: "People would see not only others in a different way, but they would see themselves in a way that they never had before. They would see beauty where they've never seen it before and well, I don't know. I just think that it would help everyone in many ways, but at the same time it's a wish that could backfire because people would have a lot of 'knowledge' that maybe we shouldn't have. I mean, there is a reason we don't know most the things we humans are clueless about and my guess is that it's a pretty good reason. I mean, its a good there we have a God, so maybe that wouldn't be my wish."
Bob: "Oh, great back to square one."
In my next post, I'll talk about Abby's wish and expand on why I thought I should put this up on my blog. But before that, I want to here what you guys have to say. Like after reading this, what are you thinking. What do you think? What would your wish be?
