A while ago, in Science, my teacher (we are going to call her Ms. C) was going over a study guide. And for each question, no one would answer. So each time a new question was asked, I would wait a little while to see if anyone else would say anything. Then I would say my answer. After a while Ms. C asked if anyone else did the study guide. When they all said yes, she asked why nobody but me was answering. They all got mad and said, "She is answering before we even have a chance." So, my teacher asked another Science question, and again no one answered. Again I waited, but still no one did. I raised my hand and spoke what I had wrote down. Ms. C finally got mad and told the others to start answering. So I stopped. After the next question, there was a long pause before someone new shouted their guess. That's how it went for a while until we stumbled upon a question that they didn't know. That's when they all got mad because I wasn't answering any more.
This kind of reminded me of how we sometimes look at God. People tend to turn to God only when troubles are floating their way because they don't want to do what He says. They just want Him to do what they say. They send up short prayers like, "God please make this stress over my friends go away. They are driving me nuts! Amen". Then once the problem subsides, they move on with their lives. They don't care about having God infiltrate their hearts all the time. They don't want Him to get that close. And if the problem doesn't just go away, then they get mad at God. But the thing is God isn't going to just snap all of your problems away. He uses those trials to build character in you. (I can go deeper into that in another post if anyone wants me too. I find that to be a pretty interesting subject.)
That's not how God wants to be treated either. He isn't some magic fairy who wants to wave his wand to make all you demands come true. He wants, no, He deserves more than that. He deserves our complete and utter devotion. He created this beautiful, magnificent world for none other than us. He build the perfect universe for our species. He hand crafted each and everyone of us. He specifically planned each life. He created all of this, all of creation! He loves us unconditionally and we do not deserve it, but He doesn't care. He loves us because we are His. We have the amazing blessing of being able to call ourselves "Children of God." What more can we really feel the need to ask for? How can we treat Him the way we do? This glorious God who sacrificed His one and only perfectly perfect son for our sakes, and we have to audacity to tell Him that we only need Him when we are in trouble. To me that doesn't make much since. Especially because without God, we would not even exist. We would not get anywhere.
