A lot of people put love in a box with the word relationship and/or romantic wrote in big bold letters on top. But if you really look around, I bet you could find numerous more examples of love. Mother-son love, father-daughter love, brother-sister love, friend love, love of ice cream (food in general), and God love are just a few examples of different types of love.
Love is so much more than just romantic relationships! Love defines the world and all of creation. Love defines God because God first loved us. He showers love on us every second of everyday. Loves give hope and unlocks things about ourselves that we may not have known before. Loves shows God's mercy and grace. It gives us passion and joy, happiness and laughter. It shows us beauty and allows us to appreciate little things like a since of humor or the ability to see or talk or feel. It makes us more open to gratitude. Love truly is amazing because there is no real way to define it. you cant put in in a box and give it a perfect definition because love means so many things. No one has the true definition of love but God.
If I speak with human eloquence and angelic ecstasy but don’t love, I’m nothing but the creaking of a rusty gate.
If I speak God’s Word with power, revealing all his mysteries and making everything plain as day, and if I have faith that says to a mountain, “Jump,” and it jumps, but I don’t love, I’m nothing.
If I give everything I own to the poor and even go to the stake to be burned as a martyr, but I don’t love, I’ve gotten nowhere. So, no matter what I say, what I believe, and what I do, I’m bankrupt without love.
Love never gives up.
Love cares more for others than for self.
Love doesn’t want what it doesn’t have.
Love doesn’t strut,
Doesn’t have a swelled head,
Doesn’t force itself on others,
Isn’t always “me first,”
Doesn’t fly off the handle,
Doesn’t keep score of the sins of others,
Doesn’t revel when others grovel,
Takes pleasure in the flowering of truth,
Puts up with anything,
Trusts God always,
Always looks for the best,
Never looks back,
But keeps going to the end.
Love never dies. Inspired speech will be over some day; praying in tongues will end; understanding will reach its limit. We know only a portion of the truth, and what we say about God is always incomplete. But when the Complete arrives, our incompletes will be canceled.
When I was an infant at my mother’s breast, I gurgled and cooed like any infant. When I grew up, I left those infant ways for good.
We don’t yet see things clearly. We’re squinting in a fog, peering through a mist. But it won’t be long before the weather clears and the sun shines bright! We’ll see it all then, see it all as clearly as God sees us, knowing him directly just as he knows us!
But for right now, until that completeness, we have three things to do to lead us toward that consummation: Trust steadily in God, hope unswervingly, love extravagantly. And the best of the three is love.
(1 Corinthians 13, The Message Translation) This is called the Love Chapter. It is the Bible's definition of love. It gives us a small glimsps of God's definition of this beautiful thing called love. Is this similar to your definition of love? To me love is beautiful and amazing. It brings out the best in people. It gives you a chance to show your personality and be who you are without caring what others think.
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
(John 3:16, NIV) He loves each and everyone of us so much that He sent His one and only son, Jesus, to the world to be beaten and scared. He knew that Jesus would be "bullied" to put it lightly and crucified, yet He sent His son to earth so we could have "eternal life," be forgiven, relate to Him, and have a better understanding of love. That is how much the God of all the universe loves you.
