The Bible says we are to show love to people and speak the truth. The holier-than-thou attitude does neither of these things. This "I'm-better-than-you" mind-set does not show the love of a savior who was willing to sacrifice his one and only son for everyone who has ever and will ever exist. It does not show love at all. It gives Christians a reputation for seeming to be uncaring of others.
In the days of Jesus Christ, the word Christian was used as an insult. People would hurl this word at the disciples to mock them. The word was used to describe someone who changed their whole way of life to be more like Christ. And that is the definition of Christian, Christ-like.
Knowing this, do you think that the people who act as if they are better than all others are really being true Christians? I don't. They are rewriting the definition of Christian into something totally different, something it was not meant to be.
The bible calls us to think of others as better than ourselves. Not the other way around.
Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.
