To be honest, the inspiration for this post came from a rattling door handle. Odd right? That's what I thought. Anyway, today I was in a room with a rattling door handle and at first I really noticed the noise. It was starting to get annoying, but then something else caught my attention and I forgot all about it. I didn't even hear it anymore. I think that is how we deal with God sometimes. We turn to God when we are in trouble or when we feel that we need something. We also tend to really try to focus on Him for a while, but as soon as something else takes our attention (even for just a moment) we forget about Him.
And today as that darn handle was rattling, for some unknown reason (probably God) this thought crossed my mind: "The rattling stopped! Or maybe I'm just not listening close enough." Immediately following this thought I began to think about God's unconditional love for each one of us. It is incredible! No matter how much we screw up, no matter how defiled we feel, no matter how far from perfect we are, He will always love us the same. We can't earn it. We can't repay it. We can only receive it. Isn't that great? I don't know about you, but I often feel unworthy of God's love. I often find thoughts in my head about how much I screw up. How much I do not by any means deserve a God who loves me no matter what.
He is like a built in parent. That's why the Bible refers to Him as Father. And the thing about parents is no matter how many times you mess up, they always love you. You can't do anything to make them stop loving you. Even when you reject God time and again, He will always be there calling your name, love dripping from His voice, waiting for you to turn to Him again. ALWAYS. So yeah, we humans get distracted from God and we do forget about Him and we may not feel like He is there, but I promise you with every fiber of my being that He is still there. You just aren't listening close enough. He talks in a small quiet whisper, so listen up.
