Sometimes I wonder how I could possibly be important, how I could possibly live a life that makes a difference. I mean there are so many people on this Earth, that it just seems overwhelming to think everyone could be important and leave an impact. Sometimes I wonder what the odds are that I might make a difference in this crazy world. Everyone wants to make a difference in some way. We all have that longing. So what is different about me? How am I any different from them? But the thing is, we are all important. We all can make a difference. All you have to do is be you. By being yourself, you will affect one person (and probably a whole lot more than just one person). If you can help one person, make their day, listen to their problems and give them advice, tell them they are loved, or make them feel worth while, then you have made a difference. And a big one at that. You have already proven that you are important by your existence. So don't sell yourself short.
We all have a purpose and if we fulfill our purpose, then we will make a difference. On my post "There could never be a more beautiful you...", someone named Maly left a comment. This is what she said, "First, if you haven't seen/read The Invention of Hugo Cabret, it's about an orphan boy living a tough life trying to find some purpose or meaning. Eventually the boy, Hugo, points out this: 'I like to imagine that the world is one big machine. You know, machines never have any extra parts. They have the exact number and type of parts they need. So I figure if the entire world is a big machine, I have to be here for some reason. And that means you have to be here for some reason, too.'
― Brian Selznick, The Invention of Hugo Cabret
What I think is so impressive is that you have a talent or skill or something out there that nobody else has or can do as well as you. Because if there was someone out there who could do some task as well as you..you wouldn't be here. But you ARE HERE. So go fulfill that task."
I really like this because it clearly explains that we all have a specific purpose. By fulfilling our purpose, we will leave a lasting impact. Even if we just impact one person, it comes back to change the world. Have you ever heard the thing about making one person's day could inspire that person to make another person's day and that could inspire that person to make another person's day and so on? That is kind of how it is with leaving a big bang effect. If you affect one person, that person could use your impact to make a change in the world.
People strive to make a difference, but the truth is, you have already made a difference by being in the world. If you have friends, you definitely influence them. If you have kids, you leave a huge impact in their lives. If you have listened to one persons problems or helped them solve a problem in their life, you have changed a little in them. You have made a difference in their life and I think that is definitely worth something. You don't have to do something big to make a difference, all you have to do is be you. The difference is already made when you do that.
